Shark Fin Ban Progress

California Residents: ACTION NEEDED

California Assembly Bill 376, which bans the sale and possession of shark fins, passed the State Assembly with broad bipartisan support. Shark Savers wishes to thank California state assembly members Fong and Huffman for co-authoring the bill, and all the shark advocates who wrote, called, and visited their Assembly members.

The bill has moved on to the Senate.

California residents, your action is needed today: please contact the members of the Senate Committee on Natural Resources and Water and urge that they support AB 376 to ban shark fins. If you live in one of these Senator’s districts, it is especially important that you contact their office as they need to hear from their constituents. California residents in other districts, it is also of value that they hear from you.

What to say: They only need to hear that you urge them to vote ‘YES’ on AB 376 on the shark fin ban. It’s a quick phone call.

We’re on the final leg of shark finning being banned officially! We have one final step and it needs your help! Oceana is launching a final letter petition before the bill is taken to it’s final step in the California Assembly on May 1st. According to Shark Saver‘s facebook page yesterday…the California shark fin Ban Bill AB376 passed appropriation committee and will now go on to the Assembly floor!

Hey guys! Thanks for the help and support! The ban on Shark Fin Trade passed in the Assembly Committee on March 22nd! It will next go to the Appropriations Committee then to the Senate. This looks great! Keep an ear out for more news on this in May! Ladybird and myself will do our best to keep people posted on further actions.

Hey guys! Thought this was important to share. There is currently a bill waiting to be passed to ban shark finning in California, however, Senator Yee of San Francisco has opposed the bill claiming it to be an attack on Asian culture. For myself, I see his opposition as an attack on my fellow bothers’ and sisters’ survival.
